I have been an avid Wednesday fan since I was a teen. I have also been a season ticket holder for the past 20 years and attend both the home and away games. I first started going to Hillsborough in 1974 (14 years old). I attended with my “white” friends and we all lived in an all-white part of the city. As most people are aware attending matches in the 70’s and 80’s was not necessarily the safest place to...
As the rigours of Lockdown got under way, Steve and I floated the idea of us running an online version of WOTMT which people could get by giving £1 towards charity. However the overwhelming feedback from our online subscribers and the Twittersphere was that this wouldn’t really fly; people said that buying a fanzine is part of the whole match-day experience and if it was separated from that it just wouldn’t be the same.

The game against Forest was a very odd experience! It was not helped by the failure of the I-follow system to allow anyone to log-in. I started watching it on the phone app, as that let me in first, and then on the TV. In recent years I have grown increasingly alienated by the influence of the PL, even more so as it has negatively impacted on the Championship and the rest...
All this virus time has given me the opportunity to reflect on the last 30 years or so of life with Sheffield Wednesday. It’s been a rollercoaster ride, with plenty of downs and not so many ups since the halcyon days of the 1990’s. In that 30 year period the world has certainly changed, and some aspects of modern life have had a big impact on the beautiful game.

The hand to mouth culture of so many clubs has been exposed; even for a few in the PL, never mind the Championship where some spend 150% of income on wages and are more dependent on income from match-days. The top clubs in the PL will be ok at the end of all this as they are less reliant on match-day income, they also spend a lower proportion of income on wages....
